Disability and Accessibility Resources
Rutgers University–New Brunswick is committed to fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion, where everyone is treated with respect. We embrace disability as a natural part of diversity and seek to build capacity to appreciate and value individual differences, including differences in ability, to create an inclusive community.
The Rutgers University Libraries provide services and technology to support accessibility accommodations at all locations.
Office of Disability Services (ODS)
ODS provides tools, resources and support for individuals with disabilities including exam accommodations, assistive technology, and information on accessible parking and transportation services.
This style guide, developed by the National Center on Disability and Journalism at Arizona State University, covers almost 200 words and terms commonly used when referring to disability, most of which are not covered in The Associated Press style guide.
Rutgers IT Accessibility Initiative
Through the Office of Instructional Technology, this initiative provides resources for the Rutgers community to improve the accessibility of websites, courses, online instruction and other materials.
Disability Accommodations
In order to request an accommodation, there are two forms that you and your health care provider need to complete as part of the Office of Employment Equity’s standard process.
- The first form is the Accommodation Request Form, which you need to complete.
- You also need to have your health care provider complete the Medical Inquiry Form.
- You can mail, email, or fax (732-932-0049) these forms to the attention of the Disability Specialist in OEE once they have been completed.
Grievance Procedures for Students with Disabilities

Rutgers University is committed to ensuring equal access to information, programs, and activities through its technologies, web pages, and services. These web pages provide resources for faculty members, web designers/developers, and other university staff to address accessibility in information technology.
At Rutgers, the primary aim of web accessibility is to make Rutgers websites available to everyone, including users of assistive technologies and people with disabilities. In pursuit of this goal, we strive to be compliant with the latest web accessibility guidelines. We also want to make you aware of the free do-it-yourself tools for developers and designers to assess web page accessibility, as well as provide tutorials for their use.
Rutgers is an equal access/equal opportunity institution. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to direct suggestions, comments, or complaints concerning any accessibility issues with Rutgers web sites to accessibility@rutgers.edu or complete the Report Accessibility Barrier or Provide Feedback Form.
