Posse was founded in 1989 because of one student who said, “I never would’ve dropped out of college if I’d had my posse with me."

The Posse model is rooted in the belief that a small, diverse group of talented students—a Posse—carefully selected and trained, can serve as a catalyst for individual and community development.
About Posse
Rutgers–New Brunswick became a Posse partner instituion in 2021 and works with Posse Boston to annually identify and recruit cohorts of young leaders. The first cohort of Rutgers Posse Scholars joined the university in fall 2022.
The annual weekend-long PossePlus Retreat, held every spring, brings a cross section of the campus community — students, faculty and administrators — together to talk about issues on a national, campus and personal level.
